Progressbar not updating

Hi

I have a script that works on a list of files to:

1. Open the file
2. Updates links
3. Export

The script also has a progressbar that shows its current activity

For some reason, the progressbar---which is a palette---is not getting updated

The Background tasks window---which is active and visible---is also not showing the action and progress

But, when I hit ESC, the script stops and the windows show where the current action was up to!

As if till now it was working, but the windows weren't getting updated

Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this?
