I'm not 100% sure you are getting what Scott may mean. In point of fact, it's a real good idea to keep all your raw images inside an enclosing folder but inside that main folder, you would be better off organizing your images inside of subfolder that are either named for specific notation (like People, Places, Things etc) or organized by date.
Since you are new to Lightroom I suggest reading a book or watching some videos so you have a better grasp of how best to organize your images before you get too far down the road. It's far easier to start with well organized folds of images than trying to fix a disorganized mess after the fact.
